Gutter Repair
Gutters are responsible for capturing water that would normally fall off the roof. Gutters also protect buildings from basement flooding. If water is allowed to build up in either the basement or foundation this will cause hydrostatic pressure to occur, and the water will eventually appear inside the building. Gutter repair typically involves patching holes or sealing corner joints that have become leaky.
Your gutters are incredibly important, yet you probably don’t think about them that often. Don’t gutters just always work? Unfortunately, no. If left damaged for too long, they will need to be replaced with a new gutter installation.
There are some sign that show your gutter may need repair :
- Constant Clogging - If you find yourself having to clear out your gutters or a clogged downspout continually, there may be a severe underlying issue causing it. It’s normal to clear out gutters about once a season, but more than that may indicate damage or wear that is making it easier for debris to get stuck in your gutter channels.
- Visible Damages - The most obvious sign that you need gutter repair is visual damage. Always check after a storm for cracks, falling gutters, and separating joints. Any of these will require professional repair as soon as possible.
- Rusty or Chipping Paint - When your gutter paint or finish starts chipping away, your gutters can become a breeding ground for rust. People who’ve experienced rusty gutters know how much of an inconvenience they can be. The rusty water can stain home siding and, if the metal rusts through, it can create a big replacement headache for homeowners.
- Stains on Home Siding - Siding stains are another indication of small cracks in your gutters. This typically starts to happen before you see water pooling and can be identified by brown dirt stains on the side of your house. If you see this, act quickly to remediate the issue, or else you could be looking at considerable problems caused by pooling water very quickly.

If gutter systems are not taken care of, they could break or become clogged and present significant flooding issues for your home. While leaking or sagging gutters might seem minor, undirected water can cause serious problems. In addition, water falling too close to the foundation can seep into or under your property.
Gutter systems consist of a network of gutters and downspouts. While these gutter parts are durable materials, they can be damaged when enough force is applied. Often, we arrive at a job to check on repairs, and we realize the client needs a gutter installation instead. For example, if your gutters are leaking at the seams, it may be time to update to seamless gutters. Good gutters last for about 15 to 20 years with consistent maintenance, but after that time, you may need to have new gutters installed.
